Jason Hawkes

5th Dan Instructor
My name is Jay Hawkes and I am a 5th Dan Shotokan Karate instructor. I have been training since I was four years old, this year is my 28th year studying Karate. I achieved my Shodan in 2003, Nidan 2006 and Sandan 2009 under the auspices of the EKO. Years later and in front of a Public audience I graded to Yondan and then in due course Godan, all under the auspices of 9th Dan Don Ownes Sensei (WJKA & ASKA) and Ash Hawkes 6th Dan.

In 2009 I opened my first Dojo the S.S.S.K – Stokenham School of Shotokan karate. 14 years later and I now head up both the Stokenham and Ivybridge Dojo. I enjoy teaching people of various ages and background. I love most when my students achieve their targets. In 2015 I started to compete, achieving gold in kumite at the WTKO national championships and being awarded the trophy for best senior competitor.

In 2017 I travelled to Dublin Ireland to compete in the Irish open. I was at the time the GB Squad captain and won bronze in Individual kumite, silver in team kata and gold in team kumite. My favourite aspect in karate is finding different ways to test the principles of this fighting Art.
